Solution:  Genium and a Vacuum Socket

Kari Miller competes competitively in sitting volleyball.Kari’s Story

At age 22, while home on leave from the US Army, Kari was hit by a drunk driver and lost both of her legs.

After Kari awoke from surgery she asked her mother for a pen and paper since she couldn’t speak due to being intubated. She slowly wrote “I know I don’t have my legs. Don’t be sad. I’ll be OK.”

Her Tragedy Didn’t Stop Her

Surgeons had amputated Kari's right leg above-knee, her left leg just below it. But this didn’t stop her.

She became involved in sitting volleyball when a friend suggested she try it in order to keep in shape during the off-season of wheelchair basketball.

"I loved the extra challenge. The mental speed required to make decisions and strategize.”

Kari is currently attending the University of Central Oklahoma where she studies biology and veterinary science.  She is also a USOC Paralympic Mentor for service members. She now trains with the U.S. Women's Sitting Team at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma.
